The Royal Collection is one of the largest and most important art collections in Ibadan, and one of the last great Yoruba royal collections to remain intact. Comprising almost all aspects of the fine and decorative arts and running to more than hundreds of objects, the Collection is a unique and valuable record of the personal tastes of Olubadans over the past 100 years.
We appreciate the Royal Collection custodian efforts to document the processes used in creating the items and preservation efforts made to maintain and restore the integrity of the items in the collection. The efforts involve the careful treatment of books, manuscripts, artworks, and other artefacts to ensure they last for future generations.
The Royal Collection is held in trust by the Incumbent Olubadan as Sovereign for his successors and Ibadanland. It is not owned by incumbent Olubadan as a private individual.
The Collection includes most of the contents of the former Olubadan’s residences across Ibadan before the opening of the new palace at Oke Aremo Ibadan.
Touring exhibitions and loans to exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the world are part of a commitment to broaden public access and to show works of art in new contexts.
