His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Oba Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja
HIM Path to the Throne of Olubadan of Ibadanland
Born on 25 September 1944 in Gambari, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja began his traditional journey within the civil line of Ibadan chieftaincy. Over decades, he rose through the hierarchical titles from Mogaji of his family compound to Jagun Olubadan, he progressed through the 23 stages of Ibadan chieftaincy hierarchy, he attained Otun Olubadan in 2024. Following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on 7 July 2025, Ladoja was declared the Olubadan-designate. The Oyo State Government approved his coronation for 26 September 2025 at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
Early Life
Rashidi Ladoja was born into the Gambari quarters of Ibadan. His father, Alhaji Aruna Ladoja, was a respected cocoa trader, while his mother, Alhaja Haleemat Ladoja, was known for her community engagement. He attended Ibadan Boys’ High School and Olivet Baptist High School.

Education and Experience
HIM obtained a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Liège, Belgium. He began his career at Total Nigeria PLC and later expanded into various sectors including manufacturing, shipping, agriculture, and banking. Politically, he served as a Senator during the Third Republic and as Governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2007.

Oba Ladoja is happily married and blessed with children and grandchildren. His family life reflects Yoruba values of unity and respect.
Coronation
On 12 August 2024, he received the ceremonial beaded crown as Otun Olubadan. His official coronation as the 44th Olubadan is scheduled for 26 September 2025 at Mapo Hall, Ibadan. His coronation marks a significant milestone in the history of Ibadan, symbolizing unity, tradition, and continuity of Yoruba monarchy.
Public Life
A statesman and as former governor of Oyo State (2003–2007), Ladoja emphasised education, agriculture, housing, and water supply projects. His political career demonstrated resilience, especially during his impeachment and reinstatement. In later years, he has acted as an elder statesman, contributing to cultural preservation and national discourse.

Ladoja is a philanthropist, supporting healthcare, education, and social development across Ibadanland and beyond. He has actively promoted Yoruba culture and traditional institutions. He enjoys traditional Yoruba music, literature, and is a patron of local cultural festivals.
